Speak “Friend” and Enter

Let’s be honest.  There are a lot of other pages on the internet, and most them are  more interesting (or have more boobs).  But if you want to have a good conversation about writing or writers, this isn’t the worst place you could be. (That would probably be the Twilight boards).

I’ll start with some writers I admire.

Graham Greene has the best the prose I think I’ve ever read.

Aldous Huxley has the best ideas I think I’ve ever heard.

Philip K Dick has the second best ideas I think I’ve ever heard.

HP Lovecraft has the best adjectives I’ve ever encountered.

Tim Powers:  Immaculately researched, brilliantly conceived.

Haruki Murakami:  At his best, he is a literary experience unto himself.

Micheal Bulgakov: Arguably the greatest writer to come out of Russia.

Eugene Ionesco:  My favorite absurdist and playwright.  Pure genius.

Knut Hamsun:  I don’t know if there is a better book for aspiring artists than Hunger.  His other novels are excellent too.

George Martin:  He set the standard for dark fantasy in the late 90’s.  Now if he would only remember that he wasn’t finished with his series.

JRR Tolkien: Deserves all the kudos he gets.  And then some.

  1. Nice work here…I haven’t even heard of a few of these authors and my reading list is getting stale. Congrats on the publishing…and yes, there is no such thing as too many boobs…though the tentacle-headed image was unexpected….I am still working through my aversion-attraction to horror-porn.

  2. Thanks for stopping by. Let me know if you do find some time to read and I can recommend specific books. I really like the tentacle-headed image, though I understand that it might be rather unexpected. The juxtaposition of horror and erotica is one of the hottest literary tropes around these days–I think we’ll all see a lot more of it in the next few years.

  3. Congratulations on your story been accepted im very much looking forward to reading it. Interesting and varied list of authors you have there, i will definitley be checking some of those out.
