2017: Same Same But Different

Past Years: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016

“There is scarcely any passion without struggle.”

Unlike last year, I did write new stories this year. Each of them, I thought, was probably better than most of my past ones. However none of them managed to find a market and in an experiment I self-published them on Amazon. You might be shocked to know that short stories by an unknown author aren’t setting the world on fire. So far this year the 3 stories, together, have netted me 70 cents.

Still I’m glad I did it. I feel comfortable with the stories and it was fun to work on the covers and start thinking more like a publisher than a writer. In addition, I did more work for an RPG book started last year and spent a lot of time fiddling with Indesign in helping to create Monsterarium.

I made significantly less at writing this year, well under 100 dollars. Worse, I was way too lax at developing either of the two novels I’ve started. And I have an outline for one after that! Plus two screenplays (and-a-half) I’d like to write.

I think I need better time management skills. Let’s see what next year brings.
